Q.
What is the minimum GPA required to apply?
A.
We are seeking students that are academically prepared and interested in learning. While we have not established a “minimum GPA” criteria, we do consider all aspects of a student’s academic profile.
Q.
What ISEE score must I get in order to have a chance at being accepted?
A.
The ISEE is a very challenging test, and the score is only one indication of a student’s academic readiness. It is evaluated in the context of a student’s grades, letters of recommendation, and other application materials. There is no cut-off point that a student must exceed.
Q.
Do I have to attend an Open House?
A.
Attendance at an Open House is not required but is highly recommended. It provides an opportunity to get a feel for the school, to learn about the program, meet Vistamar’s administrators, and to ask as many questions as you would like. Students are welcome at our Open House events, where they have the opportunity to meet faculty and sample a class.
Q.
Do both parents need to be present at the interview?
A.
The interview is an important opportunity for us to get to know one another. If possible, we would like to meet all of the parents or guardian involved in the student’s life, and we would be happy to make accommodations in the process when more than one household is involved.
Q.
Do teacher recommendations have to be from current teachers?
A.
We would prefer recommendations from the student’s current math and English teachers, if possible. In addition to those recommendations, you are welcome to photocopy the recommendation form and ask a teacher from the previous year to fill it out.
Q.
What is the purpose of the additional recommendation form?
A.
This allows you to provide us with a recommendation from a non-academic perspective, such as sports, performing arts, community involvement, or youth fellowship. The additional reference will give the committee a broader picture of the student.
Q.
Who makes the admission decision?
A.
Once a student’s file is complete, it is reviewed by the admissions committee, which includes members of faculty. The committee recommends admission to the Head of School, who also consults with the committee on applications, as needed.
