Vistamar School’s curriculum is distinctly global in its perspective and content, emphasizing human geography, world cultures, and language study. The science program follows a European model, with students taking all three laboratory sciences (a trimester each of biology, chemistry, and physics each year) for three consecutive years and making increasing use of applied mathematics and technology. In addition to course sequences in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, mother-tongue support is available in many other languages, with the possibility of earning course credit toward graduation. Expatriate have the opportunity to earn the College Board’s AP International Diploma, recognized by educational authorities in 72 countries.
Vistamar maintains relationships with partner schools in other countries and offers overseas exchanges and international service opportunities. The student body is drawn from a broad variety of resident ethnic communities and nationalities within greater Los Angeles. The skills of cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork are taught in the classroom and practiced throughout the school. An ethos that promotes respect for differences, curiosity about other nations and peoples, and personal resilience encourages all of our students to feel at home in the world.
