In the 2005-2006 school year, Vistamar fielded competitive sports teams in Girls' Volleyball, Cross-Country, Boys' Basketball, Girls' Soccer and Baseball. A second boys' basketball team, a junior varsity girls' volleyball team, and a track team were added in 2006-2007 and in 2007-2008 Vistamar will add Girls' Basketball, Boys' Soccer and Boys' Volleyball. All teams have been competing at a high level and have had successful seasons.
As the school continues to grow in numbers, more interscholastic sports teams will be added as dictated by student interest. Ultimately, Vistamar School will compete in a CIF league made up of schools that are of a similar size.
Every Vistamar student is required to maintain a healthy level of physical activity throughout the year. That requirement may be met by playing on a school team, participating on a team or in a physical activity outside of school (club team, AYSO, ice skating, dance classes, etc.), or by participating in fitness electives that are offered before and after school. Some students may opt to do a cardio workout during lunch period or during a free block. Examples: cardio fitness, martial arts, weight training, swimming, fencing, dance, yoga. Offerings from a wide menu of choices will be based on demand. Students taking fitness electives will be expected to engage in regular, monitored but self-managed cardiovascular exercise outside of class. Also, during the trimester that a student is taking biology in the first year of enrollment, he or she must also participate in the “health monitoring program” (keeping a running record of diet, exercise, and sleep).
