Meet the Admissions Team

Oscar Cancio | Director of Admissions

Oscar joined the Vistamar community in July 2019 and is beyond thrilled to be here. Prior to coming to Vistamar, he was one of the Associate Directors of Admission at his alma mater, Harvard-Westlake School. In that role, he led the office’s Student Ambassadors Program, worked closely with Spanish-speaking families, spearheaded outreach to schools in underserved areas of Los Angeles, and served as the liaison for Community Based Organizations.

Oscar has worked in the Admissions field ever since he graduated from college. Before taking on independent school admissions, he worked in graduate and undergraduate admissions at the University of La Verne, the University of Southern California, and Bates College.

He earned his B.A. in English with a focus on African-American literature form Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. In 2016, he received a Business Certificate from UCLA Extension.

During his personal time, Oscar can be found playing ice hockey at the Toyota Sports Center, boxing, spending time with his nephews, volunteering in Long Beach or rooting for his Boys in Blue at Dodger Stadium.

Kirstyne Lange | Associate Director of Admissions

Prior to joining the Vistamar Admissions team in July 2017, Kirstyne worked as the Assistant Director of Admissions, Development and Coordinator of Student Activities at The Marin School in San Rafael, CA. In this integrated role, Kirstyne facilitated growth in Admissions, supported fundraising, increased alumni engagement, and helped students reenvision their leadership program and put an unconventional spin on traditional high school events. Previously, Kirstyne held positions at Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, CA, in Development, Student Life and in Athletics as a JV Volleyball coach.

Kirstyne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from Mills College where she led a number of student organizations and was a 4-year member of the volleyball team. She continued her education and went on to earn a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Sonoma State. Throughout the program, Kirstyne held numerous internships with education policy-based organizations that helped introduce her to the world of Independent Schools.

Kirstyne believes that Vistamar is an inclusive community that takes pride in its diverse student body and intentional learning environment. In her free time, Kirstyne enjoys anything volleyball related, photography and spending time in her hometown of San Diego with her friends and family.
