Senior Project

During the last three weeks of the school year, Vistamar seniors are out and about in Los Angeles, across the U.S. and abroad, exploring a vast array of personal interests and possible career paths. Students work with off-campus mentors during full-time and total-immersion internships and share their experiences through daily blogs. The project culminates with a reflection paper and a formal multi-media presentation for fellow students, teachers, staff and parents. Seniors have explored a wide variety of interests. A few examples:

  • Fueled by his passion for history and love of Thomas Jefferson, one student spent three weeks at Monticello, Virginia, giving tours of Jefferson’s home and working in his garden.
  • Another student studied brewing at new, local start-up brewery. She read up on all the science and got to make her own beer.
  • Inspired by his love of hockey, one student interned with a hockey supply start-up and learned the intricacies of launching a new product.
  • Exploring a new interest, one student volunteered with the Bob Hope USO at Los Angeles International Airport. She met a variety of people and performed a slew of tasks. She was so inspired that she continued volunteering after Senior Projects finished.
