Alumnus Michael Tanaka '16 Elected Student Body President

Vistamar Alumnus Michael Tanaka '16 was recently elected President of the Gonzaga Student Body Association for the 2019/2020 academic year. 
Michael Tanaka, from Torrance, California, and a 2016 graduate of Vistamar School, was recently elected by Gonzaga University students as President of the Gonzaga Student Body Association for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Tanaka and elected Vice President Maurice Harbick ran their campaign together on three pillars: accountability, courage, and inclusion. Tanaka and Harbick stated those pillars encompass both their desires for serving fellow students as well as their aspirations for Gonzaga’s future.

According to its bylaws, the Gonzaga Student Body Association aims “to support and advocate for our fellow students, while providing the opportunity for experiences which inspire Zags to live extraordinary lives as people for others.”

A junior, Tanaka is majoring in international relations and political science. He is also part of Gonzaga’s four-year Comprehensive Leadership Program that challenges students to lead with service, justice, faith and ethics. Tanaka served as campus inclusivity coordinator for the GSBA during the 2018-2019 school year.
Vistamar School is a private independent high school in the South Bay region of Los Angeles.
