The Varsity Boys Basketball team closed the regular season with a busy four-game week. On Monday the Vikings traveled to LA Harbor College for a game with Coastal League leading Rolling Hills Prep. The team fought hard on the defensive end to limit RHP's opportunities but were outmatched in a game they lost 71-22. Senior Royce S. played with great effort on both ends throughout the game and led the Vikings with 10 points.
The Vikings bounced back the next day with a home Coastal League matchup against Geffen Academy. Several Geffen turnovers coupled with strong shooting from junior Jaylen B. and sophomore Fanuel A. helped the Vikings capture a 20-2 first quarter lead. From there the Vikings cruised to a 66-44 win. Four players reached double-figures in scoring for the Vikings as Royce S. led the charge with 16, Jaylen B. added 14, and Fanuel A. and senior Jordan F. contributed 11 each. A special shout-out to sophomore Brady L. who stepped up to join the varsity team for this game due to several injuries and other absences. Brady provided great defensive effort, steady playmaking, and scored the first varsity points of his Vistamar career!
On Thursday the Vikings had their final Coastal League game of the year against Hawthorne Math and Science. The boys needed a win to finish league play tied for second and rose to the occasion in front of a large Ainsworth crowd. The first half saw excellent defensive pressure and offensive ball movement from the Vikings as they took a 43-23 lead into halftime. HMSA fought hard to stay in the game during the second half but the Vikings remained in control and emerged with a 66-44 victory. Three seniors led Vistamar in scoring as Royce S. had 30 points while Michael E. and Shane M. contributed 12 and 10 respectively.
On Friday the Vikings faced off against Pilgrim in their Senior Night game. The team would like to thank its eleven seniors - Owen B., Collin D., Michael E., Dylan D., Gavin E., Jordan F., Shane M., Damari N., Dash S., Royce S., Bryce Y. - for their energy, effort and the incredible impact they've had on the program over the past four years. This large group will certainly be missed next year!
