I’m inspired by the way you show up, how you strive to create the amazing and beautiful world you bring to life here every day, and by your commitment to each other and what matters. You are courageous, you are kind, you are funny and you are wise, and you all know that we still have so much to learn from each other and about the world, together.
And despite the fact that you all work extremely hard and dedicate yourselves immensely to things that stretch and challenge you, the joy and hopefulness I hear and feel from you is real. You all bring that here every day, along with your dreams, your challenges, your passions, and your work. Your commitment to yourselves and those you work, learn, grown with is extraordinary.
It’s a rare thing to be able to spend one’s days in a place where our intentions, actions, and values matter and where lifting up is the norm, and where respect and open-mindedness are a constant. But we get to do that here, because we want it to be that way. And because we believe in each other.
We are at our best when we are a community that accepts, trusts, and honors each of its members in the all the ways we encounter one another - in the classroom, at Morning Meeting, in the hallways, in meetings, at lunch, or on the bus on the way to a game. When we decide, through each of our interactions, every single day, that we will support, strengthen, and elevate one another, we illuminate and amplify the very best things about being human. And in terms of our Essential Question this year, I can’t think of a better way to describe what belonging means at Vistamar School than that.
I wish for you all a peaceful, rejuvenating, and reflective holiday season.
Be well, and we’ll see you in the new year!
