Pomona College President, Gabrielle Starr, is 12th Buckheit Speaker
On October 25, we welcomed G. Gabrielle Starr as Vistamar's 12th Buckheit Leadership Event Speaker.
Her talk explored the neuroscience of aesthetics, connected the experience of the arts and beauty to human learning, and even explored the potential benefits of AI. She reminded us to celebrate the beauty in artistic endeavors, not just for the intrinsic enjoyment but especially for how these experiences expand our thinking and deepen our engagement in the world. In her words, “Something special happens when we stop for beauty.” She also lauded life-long learners, and assured us that colleges still want students who love to learn.
The Buckheit Educational Leadership Series honors Vistamar School’s founding Head of School, Jim Buckheit, and explores issues in education and adolescent development of interest to the greater Los Angeles community. The Buckheit Educational Leadership Series is open to all members of the Vistamar community, as well as interested members of the public.
