Vikings sports looks to keep it rolling
Boys Varsity Basketball: The boy's basketball team traveled to Downey on Monday to play in the St. Pius X - St. Matthias MLK Showcase event. The Vikings faced off against The Palmdale Aerospace Academy in the first game of the day. Jaylen B., made a couple big shots in the second quarter including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to send the Vikings into the half with a 24-12 lead. Vistamar's zone defense was stifling in the third quarter as they held Palmdale Aerospace to just two points for the first seven minutes after the break. Gavin E., made one particularly impressive defensive play during this time taking a charge to stop a sure transition bucket. Offensively, strong ball movement led to several good looks both inside and outside for the Vikings, and they emerged with the 49-36 victory. Jaylen led the team with 11 points while Shane MS., added eight and Fanuel A., scored seven points all in the second quarter.
Boys Varsity Soccer: Vistamar boys went down to CAMS in the first half. Despite being down the boys were creating chances and controlling the game. With CAMS going down a man due to a red card the Vikings experienced a wave of momentum for the remainder of the match but fell short of putting away chances. Vikings lost 0-1 but are looking ahead to their next match.
Boys JV Basketball: The Vikings started out the first portion of the first-quarter staying with Mary Star by some good three-point shooting and strong zone defense. But Mary Stars’ size bothered us throughout the game, they had many second chance opportunities, as well as using their size and length to press us and create turnovers. Final score was 68 to 29.
Girls Varsity Soccer: Vistamar played HMSA for a second time and it ended in a draw, 1-1. Sadie H., scored the one goal assisted by Noelle B. There were 14 saves by Anabella White.
Girls JV Soccer: The Vikings traveled to Campus Fields to play El Segundo and lost 6 - 1 Alexis A.,, Hannah B.,, and Karla R., had multiple shots on goal as did Ryan F.,, Maya BC., and Keria S. The girls were able to string together four and five passes. All throw ins were good and Vistamar shielded the ball. The girls were warriors with no subs.
Boys Varsity Basketball: The Varsity Boys Basketball Team traveled to Lennox for a Coastal League game on Wednesday night. The Vikings took control of the game early outscoring Lennox 23 - 7 in the first quarter on the way to a 77-28 victory. The Vikings put together one of their stronger team performances of the year as all 12 players in uniform scored in the game. Vistamar knocked down a season-high 11 three-pointers. Royce S., led the team in scoring with 14 points while Shane MS., added 13 and Jaylen B., had ten.
Boys JV Basketball: Vistamar started of the game strong holding a six point lead throughout the 1st quarter. Wildwood came back to tie the game at half. The Vikings came out in the 3rd quarter with strong team defense at brought the lead back up to eight points on some great passes by our guards especially Jason MS. Zac P., also had some great finishes at the rim and offense rebound put backs to lead the team in scoring with 15 pts. Wildwood came within four late in the fourth quarter, but we brought the lead back up to seven at the end of the game before they made a three at the buzzer to end the game with a Viking Victory 34-30.
Boys Varsity Basketball: Vistamar's boys basketball team hosted Geffen Academy for a home Coastal League game on Thursday night. The game was rather tight early but strong three-point shooting from Max R., Jaylen B., and Shane MS., in the second quarter helped Vistamar take a commanding 36-16 lead into halftime. Vistamar's on-target long distance shooting continued into the second half as they made 11 three-pointers for the second consecutive game and emerged with a 69-25 victory. Max recorded a career high 15 points in the win while Jaylen B., contributed 13 and Michael E., added 12 points off the bench.
Boys Varsity Basketball: The Vikings kept thing rolling with a 53-45 win over CAMS. This was Vistamar’s second win over CAMS this year.
