2019 - 2020 School Year Applicant Information

The annual deadline to submit an application for the 2019-20 academic year is January 17, 2019 so don’t procrastinate. In fact, we recommend you complete your application well before this date.

Supporting Materials: All supporting materials, such as recommendations and transcripts, must be received by January 31, 2019.

  • STEP ONE: SUBMIT THE INQUIRY FORM

    Future Applicants: Please click here to fill out the online inquiry form. By doing this, you and your family will be added to our admissions database. This lets us know your interests and to receive important email and mail communications from the Admissions Office. 

    Please note: If you have already completed the inquiry form, then you are in our database and do not need to fill out the form again. 

    For password assistance to log into your myVistamar account, please email admissions@vistamarschool.org and we will respond within 24 hours.
     
  • STEP TWO: COME VISIT

    Vistamar School hosts Open Houses, V Factor Events and Campus Tours throughout the admissions fall/winter season. Attending an Open House is a great way for you and your parents to see Vistamar School in action and find out what The V FACTOR is all about. 

    Registration will launch in mid August from the Admissions Events page.
  • STEP THREE: SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

    Vistamar School uses the Standard Application Online (SAO)— it goes live on August 1, 2018.  To learn more about using the SAO and begin your application, click here

    The annual deadline to submit an application for the 2019-20 academic year is January 17, 2019. 
    • If you are applying for need based Moderated Tuition - Vistamar's exceptional take on Financial Aid, your application is due on January 31, 2019.
    • More information can be found on the Affording Vistamar section of our website.
    * There is a one-time application fee of $125. If this is a hardship for you and your family, please check back for details on how to request a fee waiver.*

  • STEP FOUR: THE CHARACTER SKILLS SNAPSHOT

    An integral part of the education at Vistamar are our core values. The Character Skills Snapshot gives us richer holistic information to make admission decisions beyond just grades and test scores.

    For students who take the SSAT, there is no charge to take The Snapshot. Once you have completed your application or registered for the SSAT, access to The Snapshot can be accessed through your SSAT/SAO portal.

    Students planning to take the ISEE may register for the Snapshot on www.ssat.org. There is a $25 fee for ISEE test takers.
     
  • STEP FIVE: SCHEDULE YOUR INTERVIEW

    After your online application has been submitted, we will contact you to set up an interview with a member of the Vistamar Admissions Committee.

    Interviews will be held from November through Mid- February. You and your parent(s) or guardian(s) will be interviewed individually on the same day. At least one parent or guardian is expected to attend the interview with you and you can plan on spending no more than one hour at Vistamar. 
  • STEP SIX: SCHEDULE YOUR ADMISSION TESTING

    Students who apply to Vistamar for grades 9 and 10 may take either the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) or SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) standardized admission test. Admission tests must be completed between October 2018 and the last week of January 2019. Applicants to grades 11 may submit results from the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) in lieu of the ISEE or SSAT. All students must submit either an ISEE, SSAT or PSAT result to Vistamar School.

    All test results must come to Vistamar School directly from the testing company.
    We will not accept scores from an applicant’s family or consultant. 

    The standardized test results are just one factor we consider in gaining a clear academic picture of each applicant. Most students should not require any special preparation or tutoring.

    Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE)
    When registering online to take the exam, make sure to list our  school code, “054327.”  You can register with Educational Records Bureau (ERB) online at www.iseetest.org or call ERB directly at 1.800.446.0320.  Please keep in mind, dates fill quickly We encourage you to review their website to help you and your family learn more about the test. 

    In order to be considered in the priority round, please take your ISEE by January 26th. While you can take the exam at any number of sites, the ISEE will also be administered at Vistamar School on the following dates:  
    • November 3, 2018
    • November 7, 2018
    • December 15, 2018
    • January 13, 2019
    • January 26, 2019
    Please note, arrangements for the completion of the ISEE are the responsibility of each applying family. Reservations for testing and payments are made through the ERB 1.800.446.0320. Please email fee waiver requests to admissions@vistamarschool.org. 


    Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)
    When registering online to take the exam, make sure to list our  school code, “  .”  You can register with the Enrollment Management Association (EMA) online at www.ssat.org or call EMA directly at 609.683.4440.  We encourage you to review their website to help you and your family learn more about the test. 

    In order to be considered by the priority deadline, please take your SSAT by January 26th. While you can take the exam at any number of sites, the SSAT will also be administered at Vistamar School on the following dates:  
    • October 13, 2018
    Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) 
    Vistamar requires that each 
    10th and 11th grade applicant who has taken the PSAT within one year report their scores to Vistamar. 10th and 11th graders who have not taken the PSAT should make arrangements to take the ISEE or SSAT. Please contact the College Board for any additional questions. 

Decision Dates

Admissions and Moderated Tuition decisions will be released electronically and by mail at 5:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2019. If you decide to accept your offer of admission (and/or Moderated Tuition) at Vistamar, contracts are due no later than Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

  • Q: Can I submit my application and supplemental forms early?

    Yes. We encourage students and families to submit their application as early as September 2018 prior to the January 17th priority deadline.  

    Supplemental Forms from the student’s current school, however, are not due until January 31, 2019. We will accept those forms as early as December 1, 2018.

    We recommend these forms be submitted to us as close to January 31st as possible so we can have the most recent and up-to-date information regarding the student. Once we have received all the pieces of an application can we begin the evaluation process.
  • Q: Is an Admission Interview Required?

    Yes.  After your online application has been submitted, we will contact you to set up an interview with a member of the Vistamar Admissions Committee.

  • Q: How do I apply for Moderated Tuition (Financial Aid)?

    We at Vistamar are deeply committed to working with qualified students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to assist with tuition costs. To do this, we’ve developed a robust, need-based program we call Moderated Tuition. Many schools refer to these programs as financial aid, but Vistamar’s program is preferable because it serves a wider variety of family circumstances including families who have moderate need.   • Q: Does Vistamar have support for students with Learning Profiles?

    Applicants currently receiving or anticipate to receive educational support from Vistamar School need to email current (within the last 3 - 5 years) pertinent educational or neuropsychological
    testing to admissions@vistamarschool.org.
     
    Please note, Vistamar does not grant accommodations based on doctor's note, IEP or 504 plan. We do offer the accommodations of 50% extended time as well as use of a laptop for notes and in class essays (for a diagnosis of disorder of written expression/dysgraphia not for ADHD). 
  • Q: Does Vistamar School have a bus service?

    YES. 
    Here are the key details about our bus service:
     
    • Our program serves families who wish to use a bus service to attend Vistamar – those coming from the north and from the east of our El Segundo campus.
    • Families are responsible for covering the cost of bus transportation one-way or round trip.
    • Vistamar partners with families who are participating in Moderated Tuition on an individual basis to help make the program affordable.

Rolling Admission Information

If you missed the priority deadline, Vistamar School will consider 8th grade applications after the deadline until August 15thOnce we receive all supplemental forms, we will move your file to the Admissions Committee and deliver a decision typically within one week. 

Please note, applications for Moderated Tuition closed with our priority deadline on January 31, 2018.

  • Q: I am a rising 9th grader, can I submit an application for the 2018 - 2019 school year?

    Yes.  We do consider applicants beyond the annual deadline date and have limited openings in 9th grade. Please review the steps to apply to begin the process. 


  • Q: What are the  Steps to Apply during Vistamar's Rolling Admissions process?

    STEP ONE: SUBMIT AN INQUIRY. Fill out our online form.

    STEP TWO:  APPLY TO VISTAMAR.
    1. Complete Vistamar’s online application
      • Please note, applications for Moderated Tuition closed with our priority deadline on January 31, 2018. 
    2. Submit recommendation forms and transcript request forms to your current school  All forms are available to download on the right hand column. 
      • To monitor the status of your application, please review the checklist within your myVistamar portal.

    STEP FOUR:  SCHEDULE YOUR INTERVIEW.
     After your online application has been submitted, you will be directed to to set up an interview with a member of the Vistamar Admissions Committee or Community. You and your parent(s) or guardian(s) will be interviewed individually, and you can plan on spending no more than one hour at Vistamar.

    We are happy to give you and your family a campus tour while you are on our campus for your interview. Please add that request in the "notes" portion of the interview appointment.
     

    STEP FIVE:  RECEIVE ADMISSIONS OUTCOMES.
    Once we receive all supplemental forms, we will move your fille to the Admissions Committee and deliver a decision within one week.

    Admissions decisions will be released electronically and by mail at 
    5:00 PM on a Friday. If you decide to accept your offer of admission at Vistamar, contracts are due within one week.
  • Q: Is Moderated Tuition available if I apply during Rolling Admissions?

    Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, Moderated Tuition is only offered to returning families and new 9th grade families who apply at the priority deadline.
