Academic Programs


At Vistamar the arts are considered a vital part of a comprehensive education. For the 2017-2018 school year, Vistamar’s Visual and Performing Arts Department is introducing an Arts Survey course for all incoming ninth grade students. This is a year-long course that will expose freshmen to drawing & painting, digital art & design, and theatre & performing arts. Students will spend a trimester in each of the three arts disciplines, which will serve as a gateway to discovery and a foundation for a broad range of visual and performing arts courses and co-curricular activities to further develop their artistic abilities as they continue their high school experience at Vistamar. Many Vistamar students will choose to continue taking art courses beyond the graduation requirement, either in a single medium or performance area or various.

The Performing Arts

At Vistamar, students have the opportunity to pursue study in the performing arts both inside and outside of the classroom. Students may take courses in Acting for Stage and Film, Theatre Production, Rock Band, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, and AP Music Theory. While each of these classes has a performance component, one doesn’t need to be enrolled in one of these courses in order to have the opportunity to be on stage, or behind stage as the case may be.
