Family & Alumni Engagement

Vistamar students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni participate in a wide variety of social activities bringing together affinity and interest groups.

African-American Families Mixer

Every August, Vistamar welcomes African-American families to celebrate the start of another school year during the African-American Families Mixer. Students and their families gather together to enjoy delicious food, create community and get ready for a new school year.

Club de Lectura

Spanish Book Club meets three times during the year and is led by teachers Francisco Montilla and Lucia Linares.  This is a fun and relaxing time for parents to discuss a book in Spanish, meet each other, and see some of the Spanish faculty in action.  A number of current parents participate, plus we open the session to parents of alums who enjoy continuing their relationship with Vistamar.

Latino Holiday Potluck

Every December, Many of our Latino families come together and share their favorite holiday dishes. The event is open to all family members and we often have aunts, cousins, and grandparents joining us.  It’s an event students and families look forward to and a great way for families to begin to participate in Vistamar life.

People of Color Hot Chocolate Event

Each December, alumni of color return to Vistamar to reconnect with one another over hot cocoa and share their experiences with graduating seniors.

Latino End of Year Picnic

This is a Vistamar catered event that brings current Latino families and incoming families together one last time before the summer break.  It is usually held on a weekend in May and we also use the event to celebrate the seniors who will be leaving us. Parents give their seniors flowers and will say a few words about their student. It's always touching to see how proud families are of their kids and it gives the rest of the families something to look forward to.  This is also the time when the Latino Student Association (LSA) leaders will pass the baton to the new leaders. We always have at least 80% participation and new families appreciate the opportunity to meet people in a very family-like environment.
